The MMC Connected Neighborhood Commission

Reimagine a historic Detroit neighborhood for MMC / 2100.

One commission of up to $5,000 to examine how one historic Detroit neighborhood can preserve and strengthen the relationships that let residents belong, cooperate, stay healthy, find purpose, exchange help, and participate in community life through 2100.

Commission a team, nonprofit, neighborhood organization, student group, research group, civic partnership, or design collective. Every proposal must focus on a historically significant Detroit neighborhood, district, home, or building documented through HistoricDetroit.org or another credible historical source — New Center explicitly included. Five funding tracks

Track 012026–2040

Civic infrastructure that survives turnover

Systems — data, records, meeting access, translation — that keep working when staff, councils, and governments change.

Track 022026–2050

Cross-border shared measurement

One comparable set of indicators on both sides of the Detroit River: health, housing, transit, schooling, safety, longevity.

Track 032030–2075

Life and longevity as a right

Practice and research treating life expectancy and healthy years as a civic obligation rather than a policy preference.

Track 042026–2100

Nonpartisan literacy and succession

Training the next three generations of neighbors, clerks, board members, and reporters to work without a slate.

Track 052026–2060

Peace practice in shared places

Conflict reduction, violence interruption, and repair work documented ethnographically rather than campaigned on.

Transnational Longevity Caucus (TLC)

Life and longevity are human rights — and a cross-border civic question, not a partisan one. The Transnational Longevity Caucus (TLC) is a standing, nonpartisan table where Michigan and Ontario organizations compare evidence on how long people live, how well, and what public and civic practice would extend both. Seats are filled on a rolling basis; the next convening cohort closes November 1.
